The IDS 1000 is a network
intrusion detection device that monitors and logs packets when
they meet a predefined network intrusion rule. The system is
based on a tuned and optimized open-source SNORT intrusion detection
system. SNORT is one of the most advanced systems able to detect
modern attacks. There have been comparitive tests between Snort
and major commercial IDSs. NSS Group (www.nss.co.uk)
has an ongoing programme of comparison testing security software.
Bob Walder, director of NSS Group was quoted as saying "In
our tests Snort was the top performer - we were blown away by
it.".
As IDS logging accumulates significant amount of logged data,
the system has an extensive raid storage system with 480GB.
Furthermore, to keep up with the processing of packets the IDS
1000 uses dual processors and has 2 GB of memory. |
